Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Westminster Man on Trafficking in Fentanyl Charge

A 23-year-old Westminster man, Robert Joseph Wilbanks of John Smith Road, remains in the Oconee County Detention Center on a $75,000 surety bond following his arrest on a charge of Trafficking in Fentanyl. Wilbanks was booked into the detention center around 1:08 a.m. on December 25, 2025, after a traffic stop the previous evening on December 24 in Walhalla, where a deputy pulled over a white Toyota for a traffic violation at S. College Avenue and W. Wesley Street. Wilbanks, a backseat passenger in the vehicle occupied by two other adults, was searched along with the others after consent was given to search the car, during which drug paraphernalia was found and approximately 7.5 grams of fentanyl fell from Wilbanks’ person to the ground. He was arrested and transported to jail while the driver and front-seat passenger were released; the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation.
