Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Westminster Man on Trafficking in Methamphetamine Charge

Sheriff’s Deputies said that a chase which started in the early morning hours on Wednesday in Townville came to an end near Westminster. Early Wednesday morning, a deputy attempted to pull over a GMC Suburban on Highway 24 for a traffic violation, and that’s when the pursuit began.

As the pursuit continued, heading north towards the city of Westminster, the driver ran over stop sticks that were placed by a deputy on Weldon Road at Toccoa Highway. The pursuit came to an end on Davis Bridge Road near Pickens Road just outside of Westminster. A search of the vehicle produced a quantity of Methamphetamine – approximately 15 grams – hidden under the Suburban.

36 year old William Lamar Crawford is charged with trafficking meth, as well as Disregarding a Stop Sign, an Open Container in a Vehicle, Driving without a License, Failure to stop for a Blue Light, Reckless Driving and Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device. His bond was set at more than $15,000 and, right now, he remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center.
