Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Prepares for Weekend Winter Storm

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is ready for a second winter storm in two weeks, with a Winter Storm Watch from Friday afternoon through 7 a.m. Sunday and an Extreme Cold Watch Saturday evening through Sunday morning. Sheriff Mike Crenshaw warns of expected snow accumulation causing hazardous roads and dangerously cold overnight temperatures that could be life-threatening if exposed.

Avoid non-emergency travel to help first responders and crews; if you must drive, carry an emergency kit (food, water, flashlight, charger, extra clothes/blankets). Treat dead traffic lights as four-way stops, check on seniors, those with health issues, and pets (bring indoors if possible), and call 864-638-4111 for welfare checks if needed.

For emergencies, dial 911; non-emergencies, 864-638-4111. The E-911 Center is fully staffed and dispatches for the Sheriff’s Office, county fire/rescue, and local police in Salem, Walhalla, Westminster, and West Union.
