Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Seeks the Public’s Help Regarding Identification of Individual in Recent Pursuit

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help today in identifying an individual in relation to a recent pursuit that occurred near Tamassee.

A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division, on routine patrol, observed a truck on N. Highway 11 near Tamassee during the late evening hours of May 22nd that did not have any working tail lights.  The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle on N. Highway 11 at Alexander Road, however, the driver ignored officer commands and the deputy notified dispatch that he was in a pursuit.

The pursuit ended on Tilson Farm Road at Highway 11 with the driver jumping out of the vehicle and fleeing on foot.  The deputy, with the assistance of additional deputies and a K-9, attempted to locate the subject but was unable to take him into custody.

The passenger, who is the lawful owner of the vehicle, gave consent for the deputy to search the vehicle, upon which the deputy located an open liquor bottle beside the driver’s seat.  The passenger was released without charges and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

The deputy was able to obtain a picture of the individual in question via a surveillance camera from a convenience store.
