Oconee Joint Regional Sewer Authority Announces Sanitary Sewer Overflow from over the weekend

(Seneca, SC)———-The Oconee Joint Regional Sewer Authority issued a press release yesterday which stated that a small section of broken concrete caused a sanitary sewer overflow near the intersection of Highway 123 and Davis Creek Road on Saturday.

According to the release, debris fell into the bottom of a manhole and blocked an outlet pipe, which caused over 15,000 gallons of wastewater to be spilled from the manhole, which is owned by the Sewer Authority.

The release goes on to state that a small amount of wastewater reached an unnamed tributary that leads to Hartwell Lake before the repair was completed later that day.

The Sewer Authority notified DHEC and samples have been collected for analysis. Signs have been posted to alert those in the vicinity of the incident to avoid the area and will remain in place until DHEC has approved the cleanup, according to the release. The release from the Sewer Authority goes on to state that people and pets near Beacon Ridge Drive should avoid contact with the water until the notice is rescinded.
