OCPL’s Summer Reading Program

The annual Summer Reading Program is almost here, and this year, the Oconee County Public Library will explore the animal kingdom with the theme: “Tails and Tales.”

The aim of the Summer Reading Program is to keep Oconee County kids and teens reading during the summer break, ensuring that they maintain or gain reading skills and start the next school year ready to learn.

The program is open to all ages and encourages participants to take a reading challenge where they’ll earn rewards for reaching reading goals.  This year’s challenge is to read (or be read to) for at least 500 minutes from June 1 to July 23.  Every 500 minutes of reading counts for one entry into the grand prize drawings.  This year’s prizes include toys, books, Amazon Fire Tablets, and more! Participants ages 17 and under who complete the reading challenge will also receive a certificate and a medal.

Beginning in June, OCPL is also offering a calendar full of free events and activities for the whole family, including live animal encounters with Roper Mountain Science Center and Safe Haven & Educational Adventures, story times, crafts, escape rooms, games, therapy dog visits, and much more!

Summer Reading Registration opens on Monday, May 24, and the program officially kicks off on Tuesday, June 1.
