Official Sesquicentennial Sculpture unveiled in OC

At the Celebrate Oconee gala earlier this month, Oconee County unveiled the official sesquicentennial sculpture, tells Oconee County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director Phil Shirley. “We were able to unveil our sculpture, which is an Oconee Belle, we can now say, we kind of kept that secret. We had a blacksmith out of Westminster to build that. We’ve been working with them for almost a year. The amount of details in that Oconee Belle, it is almost five feet tall. So, we had a lot of conversations about that. I love public art, I think we’re lacking public art and so, I wanted that to be a part of the sesquicentennial celebration. They turned out an awesome piece of art. The detail on the leaves, the stems and all the paint. We hope to show it off at a few events and then I think it is probably going to end up at South Cove County Park. We’ll build a pedestal for it and let it be part of our Mountain Lakes Garden there in front of our South Cove County Park office. So, I’m super excited about that.” Stay tuned to 94.1 The Lake to hear more details about upcoming events showcasing the official sesquicentennial sculpture.
