OHC hosting Throwback Thursdays this Summer

Thursdays throughout the summer, bring your child for a fun, hands-on look at life in Oconee County from the past to the present as the Oconee Heritage Center (OHC) hosts Throwback Thursdays. On June 7, from 3-5pm, learn about Oconee County’s history. Oconee County is celebrating its 150th birthday this year. Learn how Oconee County has grown and changed in the last 150 years and explore activities relating to different time periods in Oconee County history. On June 14, from 3-5pm, it’s music day. Music has been a big part of heritage in Oconee County. They will explore different musical instruments, musical styles, and might even enjoy a performance. On June 21, from 3-5pm, it’s nature day. Oconee County has an abundance of natural beauty, from waterfalls to rivers, from plants to animals, learn why Oconee County is unique in the natural world. On June 28, from 3-5pm, learn about recreation. Oconee County is a great place for recreation. From boating to camping, from hiking to biking, there are lots of things for you to do right here. They will explore skills that you can use while enjoying Oconee County’s recreational opportunities. On July 12, from 3-5pm, learn in the kitchen. Ever wonder how people got food to their table before we had modern grocery stores? Learn how people of the past acquired and prepared their foods. On July 19, from 3-5pm, the day will focus on the farm. Old McDonald had a farm… We all know the song, but do you know what Old McDonald actually did? Meet some farmers, some animals, and learn how life on the farm is today. On July 26, from 3-5pm, learn about life in the home. Life in the past was very different from what it is today. Experience what people of the past had to do on a daily basis to keep their homes in tip top shape. On Aug. 2, from 3-5pm, it’s a day of play. Your child will get to explore various old fashioned games played by children of the past. These games will be so fun that your child will forget all about their electronics. Registration is a must.
