One Dead After Shooting on Padgett Street

Update from the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office:

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing an investigation today into a homicide that occurred overnight on the Utica Mill Hill.

Deputies from the Uniform Patrol Division were dispatched around 11:50pm Tuesday to 14 Padgett Street in regards to initial reports of a disturbance.  While deputies were responding to the scene, dispatch received reports of shots fired and an individual that was lying in the roadway.  

When deputies arrived on scene to begin an investigation, they observed an adult male lying in the roadway who had sustained a gunshot wound.  Deputies, as well as an officer from the Seneca Police Department and paramedics, attempted life saving measures on the victim, however, the victim died on scene.  

As the investigation continued, investigators from the Criminal Investigations Division and the Oconee County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene. The Coroner’s Office has identified the victim, in a press release, as 62 year old Richard Dennis Keese of Pendleton.  

At this time, investigators are continuing to follow up on leads in this ongoing investigation.

From Oconee County Corone’s Office:

A man was pronounced dead overnight following a shooting incident in front of 14 Padgett Street near Seneca. Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said that just before midnight last night reports of shot fired were received by Oconee 911.

Oconee Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating the incident. When they arrived, deputies found the deceased man lying in the street in front of the Padgett Street residence, where it was reported he had been staying. Coroner Addis identified the deceased as Richard Dennis Keese, age 62 of Pendleton.

The death has been ruled a homicide by the coroner’s office, who added that an autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.
