One killed on SC Highways over weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces one traffic death during the weekend period beginning Friday, January 3, at 6pm and ending Sunday, January 5, at midnight. As of January 5, nine people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to four highway deaths during the same time period in 2013.  Oconee County has already experienced two highway fatalities in 2014 compared to zero in 2013 at this same time.  Pickens County reports zero fatalities in 2014 compared to one in 2013.  Anderson County has yet to experience a highway fatality in 2014, which is the same as 2013 at this time. Of the seven motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2014, two were not wearing seat belts.  Through midnight January 5, two pedestrians, zero motorcyclists and zero bicyclists have died on state roads and highways.
