One killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces that one person was killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of Oct. 1, 2017, 713 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 760 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016. Locally, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety reports Anderson County with 31 traffic deaths in 2017 compared to 47 in 2016. Oconee County lists 12 in 2017 and 9 in 2016. Pickens County has experienced 17 roadway fatalities in 2017 and 15 in 2016 at this same time. Of the 489 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2017, 237 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight Oct. 1, 98 pedestrians have died compared to 107 in 2016; 90 motorcyclists have died compared to 110 in 2016; and 14 bicyclists have died compared to 21 in 2016 on state roadways.
