Paint Spill closes portion of Highway 188 in Seneca

Motorists should avoid Highway 188 in Seneca as a paint spill has closed a portion of the road, says Lance Corporal Joe Hovis, Community Relations Officer for Troop 3 of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. “We had a truck that was carrying paint that was going down SC 188 that went around a curve and overturned. As a result there was a spillage of paint and so right now the road is closed. DHEC is on scene. There will be a clean up that will probably last until around 3pm. Right now we have detours set up. If you are traveling westbound on 188 then we ask you to take Ebenezer Road to Crooked Creek Road and if you are traveling eastbound on 188, we ask that you take Crooked Creek Road back to Ebenezer Road that will take you around that area. Obviously, if you can avoid that area please do. It is probably going to be very congested when parents start taking their kids to school this morning, it is not too far from Keowee Elementary. So, it could become very congested this morning and like I said they are going to cleaning up that area until about 3pm this afternoon.” Drivers are asked to avoid this area if possible.
