“Payne-ful Business” Exhibit Opens in Seneca

The City of Seneca and Clemson University present “Payne-ful Business: Charleston’s Journey to Truth” in the Louise Bell Gallery at Seneca City Hall (221 E. North First St., Seneca, SC), January 15–March 31, 2026, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. The exhibit features over 40 paintings by artist John W. Jones that vividly humanize enslaved individuals from antebellum Charleston slave advertisements, inspired by Margaret Seidler’s book confronting her family’s three-generation legacy as enslavers and exploring racial history for truth and reconciliation. A public drop-in reception to meet Seidler and Jones is Thursday, February 12, 5:30–7 p.m., with signed books available.
