Pedestrian struck and killed along I-85 South

Update:

Shortly before 8 am Saturday morning, a body was found adjacent to the southbound lane of I-85 near Fair Play south of Exit 4.  

The decedent had multiple traumatic injuries consistent with being a pedestrian struck by motor vehicle.  

This appears to be a hit and run fatality.  Further details may be obtained from the SC Highway Patrol spokesperson.  

The decedent had no identification present on his person.

With the assistance of the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, digital fingerprints were obtained at the scene that identified the decedent as Lanny N. Mest, age 53, who had a Williamsburg, Kentucky address.  

It is unknown where he may have been residing at in Oconee County or why he was in proximity of    I-85 at Fair Play.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a pedestrian that happened this Saturday morning around 8:15 am near mile marker 3 on I-85 South in Oconee County. The vehicle that hit the as yet unnamed pedestrian is unknown and being sought after as the investigation continues. The Oconee County Coroner will release the identity of the victim pedestrian soon. Anyone with information is urged to contact law enforcement.
