PENALTY ASSESSED FOR UNAUTHORIZED LAKE DISCHARGE

South Carolina DHEC fined a Lake Keowee home builder $8,400 dollars for violating the state’s Pollution Control Act and Water Pollution Control Regulations. The fine was assessed to Easley resident James Nichols Sr. for a violation notice to Nichols’ Estates at Northampton construction site, a new home development along Northampton Road near the Seneca water tank. According to DHEC, “On August 6, 2019, a Notice of Violation was issued as a result of failure to maintain sediment and erosion controls and unauthorized discharges of sediment associated with construction.” A consent order requires Nichols to submit an engineer’s report confirming the site is in compliance with an approved storm water pollution prevention plan.
