Pets adopted in OC during Statewide Event

This past weekend marked a first for the state of South Carolina as Pick Me! SC was held at animal shelters and rescues across the state. Sponsored by the Petco Foundation and organized by No Kill South Carolina, the goal was to save 1,500 pets through adoptions in just one weekend. Angel Newman with the Oconee Humane Society says the event went well in Oconee County. “Well, we were honored to be a part of this statewide event, the first time in history to try to get 1,500 pets adopted statewide. We had a great weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the shelter and at Petco. We had nine cats and 13 dogs adopted and even beyond that total number, which was wonderful, several of those dogs were long stays, they had been at the shelter a long time and were looking for that special home and folks came out and gave them exactly what they needed. There were happy tears all around and it was just a wonderful event. A lot of folks came out to see the dogs and cats and even if they couldn’t adopt they came out and spent some time with them. So, all and all we appreciate everyone for coming out and just know there is still many pets waiting at the shelter that would love that same opportunity that those pets had this weekend.” To see all the available pets in Oconee County, visit www.oconeehumane.org.
