Pickens County Approves Recreation Funding for Parks, Senior Center, Rejects Childcare Request
Pickens County Council unanimously approved two emergency recreation funding requests Tuesday, allocating $30,000 to Pickens Parks and Recreation for upgrades to the “Playground of Promise” and $25,000 to the Pickens Senior Center for facility improvements. A $100,000 request from the Clemson Childcare Development Center (CCDC) to improve outdoor play areas failed in a 1-5 vote, with Councilwoman Claiborne Linvill as the sole supporter. Linvill argued the funding would enhance recreation access for low-income families, but Chairman Alex Saitta and Councilman Chris Bowers cited concerns over precedent, noting CCDC primarily serves as a childcare center rather than a public recreational facility.
