Pickens County Sheriff’s Office Announces Arrest Following Thursday Night Shooting Death
On Thursday May 25th, 2023, at around 9:38 PM, the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting in the 300 block of Jericho Ridge Trail near Easley. Deputies arrived to find a 55-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the torso. He later died from his injuries.

A witness reported that the shooting happened after a verbal argument and that the suspect fled on foot. The suspect was later found by deputies near Prince Perry Road and Rocky Lane and taken into investigative detention. He was identified as Chandler James Smith, a 20-year-old man.
Smith was later interviewed by detectives and placed under arrest in connection with the shooting. He is currently being held at the Pickens County Detention Center on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
The Pickens County Coroner’s Office is investigating in conjunction with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and will release the identity of the victim at a later date. The investigation is ongoing.
