Pickens County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Greenville Man On Voluntary Manslaughter Charge

(Seneca, SC)——————-The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Greenville man on charges of Voluntary Manslaughter. 46 year old Richard Scott Hinds was taken into custody yesterday without incident and was transported to the Pickens County Detention Center, according to Chief Deputy Creed Hashe.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded to an address on Pauls Road near Pickens in reference to a domestic disturbance early yesterday morning where two men were engaged in a physical confrontation. A woman advised deputies that she and her husband were inside the house when her son came into the residence and engaged in a verbal dispute with her husband.

The argument escalated into a physical confrontation, according to the release from the Sheriff’s Office. The woman later found her husband unresponsive in their bedroom. The man was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Based upon evidence gathered during the investigation, which included the autopsy, deputies obtained an arrest warrant against Hinds. Hinds is accused of placing the victim in a chokehold, which caused the victim’s airway to become restricted and led to the victim’s death, according to the arrest warrant.

Late this morning, Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley released the name of the victim, 61 year old Roger Bruce Pauls. According to the Coroner, Hinds is the step-son of the deceased.
