Pickens County Sheriff’s Office Charges Pickens Man With Murder In Shooting Death Of Wife

(Seneca, SC)———The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Pickens man with Murder and Possession of a Weapon During Commission of a Violent Crime in regards to the shooting death of his wife. 

According to arrest warrants obtained by the Sheriff’s Office, 63 year old Gregory Benson Nix shot his spouse, 59 year old Tracey G. Nix, twice with a .22 caliber firearm at their residence on Allgood Bridge Road. Nix was located at the residence when sheriff’s deputies arrived and was taken into custody. 

According to Chief Deputy Creed Hashe, deputies located the victim inside of the residence still alive. The victim was transported to the hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased upon arrival. The incident occurred just before 8am yesterday morning. 

An autopsy on the victim revealed that the victim was shot with a small caliber weapon to the upper torso. 

According to Chief Hashe, deputies recovered a .22 caliber handgun from the residence. Chief Hashe also reports that a preliminary check for prior incident reports or activity has not produced any requests for assistance from the Sheriff’s Office regarding domestic issues between the two parties.
