Pickens Student tested for Meningitis

The School District of Pickens County reports that a Pickens Elementary Student has been hospitalized and is being tested for meningitis. Currently, the student does not test positive for meningitis, but is continuing to be monitored. The symptoms of meningitis infection may be sudden onset of fever, headache, and stiff neck. If you or anyone in your household exhibits these symptoms, seek care from a doctor.  A note was sent out to parents.  It says the coordinator of nursing for the School District of Pickens County has been in contact with DHEC. The School District will continue to monitor all illness at Pickens Elementary School, watch for any other patterns of symptoms or illness, and remain in contact with DHEC.
