(Seneca, SC)—–Earlier this week, the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce held their Annual Meeting with a luncheon at the Lighthouse Restaurant.

During the meeting, Hunter Kome from Prisma Health – Oconee Memorial Hospital provided those in attendance with an update on hospital activities, including projects ongoing on the hospital campus, which includes the upcoming expansion of the emergency department.

Kome said the emergency room expansion will triple the size of the emergency department. Currently, according to Kome, there are only 20 spaces currently to care for patients with four of those sit-up cubicles.

Kome said a new 22 room emergency department with large rooms that can be used for any purpose.

“So it’ll be a totally new emergency department run on an entirely different concept with an urgent care team and a more acute care team as well as vastly streamlined triage and care initiation process so it will a whole different experience,” according to Kome.

Kome said that the emergency room expansion will cost $12.5 million dollars and the Hospital Foundation is currently raising funds for the project.

So far, according to Kome, about $500,000 in pledges has been raised with the board of the Hospital Foundation’s fundraising goal being $1 million dollars.
