Protecting your Computer against Hackers

Protecting your computer against hackers is essential in today’s digital world.  Any personal information, such as Social Security Number and credit card information, contained on your computer is subject to being stolen or compromised by hackers.  Garreth Jones, owner of Corner Technologies in Seneca offers this advice to protect against computer hackers.  “The best defense is going to be, if you have any files that are extremely sensitive, encrypt them.  Encryption means that you scrambled the contents of whatever you want to protect with a password.  That password is kept secret, you do not keep it on your computer, and you keep it somewhere safe.  You encrypt anything that is going to be sensitive to getting out.” Another simple thing you can do that is often overlooked is to shred sensitive finical documents, adds Jones. “Also buy a shredder.  Do not ever put your bills or these credit card offers that you get in the mail in the trash, shred them instead.  Don’t put them in the trash because people can go in and pull them out and then apply for stuff in your name.” Be proactive against computer thieves by using these simple tools.
