PRWD Customers to See Increase

Pioneer Rural Water District customers in southern Oconee and the upper part of Anderson County are about to see some changes on their water bills, according to Pioneer manager Terry Pruitt, who said the district went over budget by about $200,000. The district had little option but to buy the extra gallons water from the City of Seneca because of continual problems created by algae blooms in the vicinity of Pioneer’s Lake Hartwell intake. Those algae blooms are also playing a part in the cost increase of about $2.40 a month per customer, and it’s the first rate increase in three years, Pruitt said…

Over the next year, the board is budgeting for two separate treatments of the algae which, for some customers, has created smell and taste issues with their water.
