Red Cross Tips to stay Warm in Winter

With the approaching snow and ice headed for the Upstate, the American Red Cross is reminding residents to take several precautions amidst the winter weather, which could prompt power outages.  In addition, with icy roads, drivers may encounter other hazards. The Red Cross as a list of “Be Red Cross Ready” tips to prepare everyone for the winter weather event. People are encouraged to minimize travel.  If travel is necessary, people are urged to keep a disaster supply kit in their vehicle. Winterize cars and keep the gas tank full. A full tank helps prevent the fuel line from freezing. Have food and water supplies on hand. Keep at least a 3-day supply of water on hand (one gallon per person per day) and at least a 3-day supply of nonperishable, easy-to-prepare foods on hand. Create an emergency kit with a flashlight, radio, extra batteries, first aid kit, a 7-day supply of needed medications and other medical items.
