Reporter Malware Attack Affecting Portions Of Computer Network Forces Closure Of Oconee County Governmental Offices

(Seneca, SC)—–A reported malware attack affecting portions of the computer network for Oconee County Government has forced the closure of the County Administrative Offices on Pine Street.

As of 11:15am this morning, according to Oconee County Administrator Amanda Brock, the County Courthouse, all branches of the Oconee County Public Library System and all the County Magistrate Offices are closed as well.

Ms. Brock said that the Rock Quarry and Solid Waste are open as well as the County Parks, however, reservations and sales made not be able to be made at this time.

Also, Oconee County Emergency Services and the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office have  not been affected by this malware attack.

Ms. Brock said that as a precaution, the entire network system has been shut down.  Also, the FBI and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division have been notified and the County has requested their assistance in this matter.

Ms. Brock says that there is no estimated time when those offices that are closed will be open again nor could she provide a time when the incident occurred.
