RESIST “OPEN CARRY” BILL, LAWMAKERS ARE URGED

A long-time Oconee resident urged the state’s lawmakers to resist any attempt to expand South Carolina law to allow the open carrying of a firearm in public. South Carolina permits its residents to carry concealed firearms that can’t be seen by the casual observer. John Wagner says he thinks that law is working well, and the reaction from two of the state lawmakers indicates they agree. Wagner says he became aware of at least one bill last year that would allow “open carry.” But the replies from Senator Alexander and Rep. Sandifer indicate they are OK with the concealed weapon law and don’t see much possibility that open carry will be passed.
