Retirement Survey

A new survey from CareerBuilder.com finds that more Americans may be spending their “golden years” at the office.  The survey found 60% of workers say they will be looking for another job after they retire from their present company. That is up from 57% last year. CareerBuilder’s Michael Erwin says some Americans do not think they will ever stop working.  “Unfortunately, one in ten workers say that they don’t think they will ever be able to retire and then we found 27% said that they were going to have to work five to six more years, well into the time that they should be retiring.” Employers are looking to hire more older workers this year, adds Erwin. “They understand that they are going to bring a lot of welcome knowledge into the workplace, they are going to help with training and they are really going to be a good positive impact on the bottom line.” Erwin offers this advice to job seekers over 50.  “Well the number one thing is to stay current.  Attend seminars, workshops and informal courses, so you can stay up on the technology that is out there.” Employers definitely understand that there is great value that comes from hiring older workers and the survey found that 48% plan to hire 50 plus workers this year and 44% hired last year.
