Roadway Fatalities down slightly in Tri-County Upstate

Roadway fatalities are down slightly in the tri-county area of Upstate South Carolina, according to a new report from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. In 2018, Anderson County lists three deaths compared to four in 2017 at this same time. Oconee County reports one in 2018 and zero in 2017. Pickens County lists zero roadway fatalities in 2018 compared to three in 2017 at this same time. As of Jan. 21, 39 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 49 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Of the 32 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2018, 18 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight Jan. 21, six pedestrians have died compared to five in 2017; one motorcyclist has died compared to three in 2017; and zero bicyclists have died compared to one in 2017 on state roadways.
