Saturated Ground could be dangerous

Days and days of rain has saturated the ground in the Upstate of South Carolina making low lying areas prone to flooding and also increasing the likelihood of storm related damage.  Oconee County Emergency Management Director Scott Krein encourages residents to watch out.  “One of the things that we need to remember is that we are saturated, so any bit of heavy rainfall does swell the rivers and tributaries more than it normally would.  Therefore, we have to be cautious.  Any time a road is covered, we need to make sure that we do not pass through that area and we notify the appropriate personnel, so we can block that road off.  The other thing is with the saturated ground we have trees coming down just because the ground is so wet, the roots aren’t holding and they are toppling over, so be cautious around those, especially when they come down to make sure they didn’t take power lines down and the danger of when power lines are down on the ground.” Any time you spot a downed power line call 911 to report it, so others are not injured.
