Saturday is National Get Outdoors Day

This Saturday, June 8, is National Get Outdoors Day and the Mountain Lakes Convention and Visitors Bureau wants Oconee County residents to explore the great outdoors of the Golden Corner of South Carolina.  Ken Sloan, president and CEO of the Mountain Lakes Convention and Visitors Bureau gives a few of the exciting outdoor attractions in Oconee County.  “The lakes are full right now.  We have four lakes including Lake Tugaloo, we have two rivers, we have 29 trails to waterfalls, we have 85,000 acres of natural forestland.  Get out there and get on the lake.  You can pull your boat right up to a waterfall and you can pick a Mountain Laurel flower while you are out there.  Oconee County is just one of the most beautiful places in the world.” The native Mountain Laurels are in full bloom and soon their cousin, Rhododendron, will be blooming too.  These two native flowers draw nature lovers to the area every year.  Oconee County also features three county parks, three state parks, as well as the historic Stumphouse Tunnel and Issaqueena Falls.
