SC DOT to perform Road Work in OC

Seven roads in Oconee County are included in the South Carolina Department of Transportation’s (DOT) second year of a ten year plan to address aging roads and bridges. The state has earmarked $4.8 million for the seven Oconee County projects, which include two on Highway 11 in the vicinity of Walhalla and West Union. The largest project to be addressed during the government year that starts July 1, is a section of U.S. 123 from Toccoa Highway to Richland Street. Another project is part of West Pine Grove Road near Fair Play and a section of Wells Highway near Seneca, from Friendship Road to Stephens Drive. Last week, the DOT Commission approved spending more than $400 million across the state to address about 600 miles of projects. According to the DOT, the 10-year plan essentially doubles the amount of road paving as the gas tax increase is fully phased into the plan.
