SC Highways claim one over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces one person was killed on state roads and highways from Friday, March 22, at 6pm until Sunday, March 24, at midnight.  As of March 24, 136 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 182 highway deaths in this same time period in 2012. Oconee County has yet to experience a highway fatality in 2013 compared to five in 2012 at this same time.  Pickens County lists six highway deaths in 2013 and three in 2012.  Anderson County reports six in 2013 compared to ten in 2012. Of the 98 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2013, 63 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight March 24, 18 pedestrians, 16 motorcyclists and two bicyclists have died on state roads and highways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight March 24, 2013.
