SC receiving another $400K to fight Zika

South Carolina is getting an additional $400,000 from the federal government to battle the Zika virus. The Associated Press reports that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention money will be used to help detect and treat microcephaly, an often-fatal condition in infants linked to Zika. Last month the federal government announced the state was receiving nearly $4.5 million to battle Zika. There have been more than 20 reported cases of Zika in the state but none involving pregnant women and none involving people bitten in the state by mosquitoes carrying the virus. The reported cases involve people who acquired the virus outside South Carolina.
