SC sending Letters to Hacked Taxpayers

Check your mailbox! Inside you may find a letter from the state saying you are one of the 3.6 million residents, whose social security numbers were stolen when a database at the Department of Revenue was hacked in October.  The letter warns electronic tax filers that the hacker may have compromised social security and bank account numbers.  The letter also encourages tax filers to take advantage of one year of free credit monitoring and to watch out for suspicious charges on their bank statements. There is still time to sign up for the free year of credit monitoring provided by the state. If you want to sign up call this toll-free number, 1-866-578-5422.
