SCAJ Statement on Tragic Train Collision

Hugh McAngus, Jr., President of the South Carolina Association for Justice (SCAJ), the state’s leading voice for plaintiff attorneys, issued the following statement concerning Sunday morning’s Amtrak train derailment: “Early Sunday morning, Amtrak passenger train 91 collided with a parked CSX freight train just outside the capital of South Carolina. With over 100 reported injuries and 2 deaths, we extend our deepest sympathies to the families and those involved. We also commend those first responders and emergency personnel who have been working around the clock to help assist those in need. For reference, we encourage anyone that needs to contact or locate family members that were travelling on Amtrak 91 to call Amtrak directly at 1-800-523-9801. While the investigation of the collision is already underway, now is the time to keep these families and loved ones in our continued thoughts and prayers. The time to heal begins now.” The SCAJ was founded in 1957 to serve as advocates for those who are harmed by the actions of others and to strengthen the justice system through education and action.
