SCDOT closing Railroad Bridge on New Madison Road

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has received word that the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is closing the old, timber railroad bridge on New Madison Road due to its condition and that a new bridge will not be constructed due to other routes that access that area and the low-volume of traffic that used the bridge. According to information from the SCDOT, motorists on New Madison Road that are north of the railroad need to use Cleveland Pike Road to get back to Toccoa Highway. Motorists on New Madison Road that are south of the railroad will still have access to and from Toccoa Highway.
