SCDPS reports Eight killed over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) announces a preliminary number of eight persons killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of March 25, 175 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 232 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Locally, Anderson County lists six fatalities in 2018 compared to ten in 2017. Oconee County reports three traffic related deaths in 2018 and two in 2017. Pickens County has experienced two fatalities in 2018 compared to five in 2017 at this same time. Of the 133 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2018, 70 were not wearing seat belts. Through March 25, 26 pedestrians have died compared to 36 in 2017; 12 motorcyclists have died compared to 19 in 2017; and two bicyclists have died compared to five in 2017 on state roadways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the SCDPS as of 11:59pm on March 25, 2018.
