School Choice Deadline in SDOC is Saturday

The deadline to apply for school choice in the School District of Oconee County (SDOC) is this Saturday, June 30, tells Oconee County Schools Assistant Superintendent of Operations Steve Hanvey. “One thing parents should know is the students has to be in good academic standing, attendance cannot be an issue and discipline cannot be an issue, so they have to meet that criteria. Those are the three criteria set by the policy. Also, parents need to know that we now have the deadline of June 30. That is a hard deadline, we will not be taking school choice applications after that date unless someone new moves to the area or someone in the area moves to a new residence, but we won’t be taking school choice from any of our current students then. The SDOC reserves the right to limit school choice enrollment by grade level or program as staffing or funding requires. Choice may also be limited by classroom space in the school. We have made it our procedure to not add a teacher because of school choice. The form is online on our website. Again, the complete application is due on June 30.” Only students that reside in Oconee County are eligible for choice. Transportation to a “choice school” is the responsibility of the parents or guardians as no bus service will be provided. Students on school choice must submit an application each year. Principals will consider behavior, attendance, and grades before approving applications. To fill out an application for school choice in the SDOC, visit www.oconee.k12.sc.us.
