School District Of Oconee County Board Of Trustees Holds Special Called Council Meeting

(Seneca, SC)——————The School District of Oconee County Board of Trustees held a Special Called Meeting yesterday during the lunch hour and after approving the agenda for the Special Called Meeting, the School Board went into executive session to approve unanimously a motion to approve the Administration Recommendations for Employment Recommendations and Changes. 

After the meeting, Dr. Michael Thorsland, the Superintendent of Education for the School District of Oconee County, announced that former Superintendent of Education Dr. Michael Lucas will be officially retiring at the conclusion of the school year from the Human Resources Department. The individual selected to take Dr. Lucas’ position in the HR Department is current Seneca High School Assistant Principal Susie Wearing. 

The position in the HR Department with the School District is a Director’s position. Dr. Lucas currently works with teacher certification and works with induction teachers. According to a press release from the School District, Wearing has sixteen years of experience as a teacher and administrator and has previous banking experience in the private sector. 

Dr. Thorsland also had great words for the impact that Dr. Lucas, who served as Superintendent of Education from 2007 to 2014, has had on education in Oconee County as well as the impact that Dr. Lucas has had on him personally. 

Dr. Thorsland also announced that new West-Oak Women’s Basketball Coach Daniel Spencer will be moving from Seneca Middle To West-Oak Middle School to teach 6th grade science next fall as the District likes to have coaches teaching in the area where they will be coaching in. Spencer is also part of the Call Me Mr. Program at Clemson University. Dr. Thorsland announced that Danny Hall will be transferring to Seneca Middle School and the Call Me Mr. Program will continue at Seneca Middle School with that transfer.
