School District Of Oconee County Issues Enrollment Numbers For First Day Of School

(Seneca, SC)—–A grand total of 10,647 students were the School District of Oconee County’s enrollment numbers during the first day of school yesterday, which is up 25 students from the first day last year.

According to Jennifer Dodd, who is the Public Information Officer for the School District, district leadership started the day at several different schools to welcome students and staff.

The School District wants to remind parents and guardians that students must be current in their immunizations to attend school and there is no longer a 30 day grace period.  Breakfast and lunch prices were increased as well as required by the National School Lunch program.

According to a press release from the School District, the district is still facing a shortage of bus drivers, especially in the Walhalla area as drivers had to do double routes due to a shortage of seven drivers.  The School District is hiring drivers to work 30 hours a week with full benefits.
