SDOC 2017 ACT Scores above State Average

Students in the School District of Oconee County (SDOC) have scored higher than the state average on a recent test. ACT, Inc.’s report on the scores of eleventh grade students shows SDOC students scored at or above the state average on every subtest and that the percentage of students college ready exceeds the state average in English, reading, and science. These results show that SDOC students are college ready before beginning their senior year and are prepared to compete successfully for post-graduation opportunities, says Oconee County Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael Thorsland. “Yeah, any time we are above the state average we’re excited about that. Of course, we think we should be above the state average because we think our kids are above average. That is not just a celebration for our high schools but the ACT really is a reflection of students in their K-11 years. So, we congratulate all of our teachers who have played a part in our students’ scores.” The ACT test was administered online to all eleventh graders in the spring of 2017. The release of these scores was delayed due to challenges experienced by ACT, Inc. with the online testing process. The SDOC mission is partnering with families to develop responsible, productive citizens.
