SDOC Board of Trustees Announces New Superintendent
The School District of Oconee County has named its current Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Instruction, Anthony “Andy” Smith, as the new Superintendent following a 3-2 board vote.
A veteran educator with over 30 years of experience—including 11 years teaching high school math, roles as K-12 Director of Mathematics and Cluster Superintendent (overseeing 15 schools and ~30,000 students) in Gwinnett County, GA—Smith has spent the last two years in Oconee advancing Professional Learning Communities and boosting student outcomes. Trustees visited Gwinnett schools he influenced, praising his visionary, collaborative leadership in innovative STEM, career-technical, and early learning programs. He will start January 26 on a three-year contract at a $195,000 base salary.Mr. Smith resides in Townville with his wife, Rebecca. Together, they have two daughters, Megan (husband, Ridge) and Allison.
