SDOC Class of 2023 Valedictorians and Salutatorians

On Saturday, May 27th, the School District of Oconee County will honor a total of 694 graduates at commencement ceremonies at each high school. The district is proud to announce the Class of 2023 valedictorians and salutatorians.

Seneca High School Valedictorian – Logan Christopher Dover
Seneca High School Valedictorian – Logan Christopher Dover
Logan Dover is the son of Bobby and Faith Dover and brother to Emma. As a student at Seneca High School, he was a member of the National Honor Society. Logan was named a Rotary Scholar for seven years, a Palmetto Fellows Scholarship recipient, and a High Honors Graduate. In addition, Logan was on the Principal’s Honor Roll for four years and a member of the 1200 Club for the SAT. He was also named an AP Scholar with Honor, a National Merit Corporation Rural and Small Town Recognition Program Winner, and a National Merit Eaton Corporation Scholarship recipient. Next year, Logan plans to attend Clemson University with an academic scholarship to study environmental engineering.

Walhalla High School Valedictorian – Emily Grace Moore
Walhalla High School Valedictorian – Emily Grace Moore
Emily is the daughter of Christie and David Moore and the sister of Chloe Moore. As a student at WHS, Emily was the secretary for the National Art Honors Society, and a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, Anchor Club, and Mu Alpha Theta. She was also an accomplished member of the Walhalla High School AP Art program. She has been a Rotary Scholar for four years and is a recipient of the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship. Emily will also receive an SC Academic Honor Diploma at graduation. In the fall, Emily plans to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design and major in animation.

West-Oak High School Valedictorian – Andrew Michael Morgan
Andrew is the son of Michael and Barbara Morgan. Andrew has been a Rotary Scholar for 4 years and he is a recipient of the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship. Andrew is a member of the National Honors Society, a High Honor Graduate, and a recipient of the U.S. Air Force STEM Award. Andrew plans to attend Clemson University to major in general engineering with a focus in chemical engineering.

Seneca High School Salutatorian – Angie Paola Diaz-Hernandez
Angie Diaz-Hernandez is the daughter of Mauro Diaz and Lidia Hernandez and sister to Danah and Melanie Diaz-Hernandez. As a student at Seneca High, she was a member of National Honor Society, DECA, Book Club, and completed four years of piano. Additionally, she served as Treasurer and Vice President of National Honors Society and co-founder and president of the Seneca Book Club for 2 years. Angie was named a Rotary Scholar for 6 years, a Palmetto Fellows Scholarship recipient, a High Honor Graduate, and Career and Technical Education Completer in Marketing Communications. She was also named an AP Scholar, National Merit Corporation Hispanic Scholar, and National Merit Corporation Rural and Small Town Scholar. Next year, Angie plans to attend Clemson University as a first generation college student to study computer science.

Joshua is the son of Julie-Ann and Doug Shannon and the brother of Matthew and Lillian Shannon. As a student at WHS, Joshua was a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club. He was also an accomplished member of the Walhalla High School Varsity Boys Golf Team. Joshua has been a Rotary Scholar for three years and is a recipient of the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship. Joshua will also receive an SC Academic Honor Diploma at graduation. In the fall, Joshua plans to attend the University of South Carolina and major in business and economics.

West-Oak High School Salutatorian – Mckenzie Rose O’Kelley

McKenzie is the daughter of Brian and Jesse O’Kelley. During her time as a Warrior, McKenzie has served as the President of the Beta Club, and the National Honors Society. She has also been an editor for our yearbook, ‘Tribe’, and she is a member of the Interact Club. McKenzie is captain of the Lady Warriors Basketball Team, and a member of the Lady Warrior Softball Team. She has also been a Westminster Rotary Scholar for 5 years, a Palmetto Fellows Scholar, a SDOC High Honor Graduate, an AP Scholar, a recipient of the Principal’s Leadership Award, and the recipient of the U.S. Air Force Science Award. Next year, McKenzie plans to attend the University of South Carolina, where she will be part of the South Carolina Honors College, and major in biomedical engineering.
