SDOC Reviews State Funding for 2025-26 Budget

The School District of Oconee County is assessing expected state contributions for its 2025-26 budget. Chief Financial Officer Jay Schickling noted SDOC’s state funding share is projected at 59%, lower than many districts due to its property wealth. Past state aid shortfalls, including a $1.3 million reduction last year, highlight the need for conservative budgeting. Locally, SDOC has one of the state’s lowest school tax rates and relies on county revenue, which has exceeded requests by up to $5 million. A proposed budget will go before the board in April.
