SDOC runs on a Regular Schedule

In spite of the extremely low temperatures, the School District of Oconee County opened on a regular schedule today. Consideration was given to a delay, but temperatures were not expected to rise much in the morning with a variation of only 4 degrees during a possible delay.  Therefore, the School District took the necessary steps to ensure a warm and safe environment when children arrived this morning.  Getting students to school on a regular schedule where breakfast and lunch could be served was deemed the best decision considering that most parents will have to work.  School officials offer this cold weather safety advice to parents: Send students to school with several layers of clothing.  This can help them keep warm while outside and allow flexibility to remove layers when inside the building.  Gloves and hats are a good idea for these conditions. Bus students should stay inside while waiting for the bus.  Bus drivers will be waiting longer at each stop so that children can stay inside their homes and go to the stop when they see the bus approaching. Principals will monitor temperatures and adjust the length and location of recess as necessary.  Tardies can be excused by principals for weather related issues.
