See the Vietnam Moving Wall in OC

Remember, honor, and give thanks for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country by seeing the Vietnam Moving Wall in Oconee County. This is a moving display in more ways than one, says Oconee County Veterans Affairs Director Jerry Dyar. “Those 58,000 plus names on that Moving Wall touch an awful lot of people around the country, especially here in this tri-state area of South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. Friends and relatives have names on that wall that mean so much to them and a lot of these folks are coming, their going to be here to see that. Not every interested citizen has had the opportunity to see Vietnam Wall on the Mall in Washington, D.C., but having the Vietnam Moving Wall in Oconee County for Veterans Day week is going to be about as good as it gets. And for that reason we’re not going to host our Veterans Day Parade this year because of this. A lot of personnel are going to be involved with the Moving Wall and we don’t want to take away anything from that, especially that Saturday because that will be a huge day for visiting the Vietnam Moving Wall. The Oconee County Veterans Council decided it would be in the best interest of everybody, we thought, if we just suspend the Veterans Day Parade this year. Of course, we will be right back with it next year but we have this special activity here for Veterans Day this year and we want to really do that and present that to its fullest. So, we think we need to devote our entire attention to the Vietnam Moving Wall this week.” The Vietnam Moving Wall is now on display behind Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative at the intersection of Highways 123 and 11 between Seneca and Westminster. The display will be open for viewing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10am to 5pm and on Monday from 10am to 3pm.
