Selling Oconee County

Ask any Oconee County resident and they will tell you this is a great place to live, work and play.  However selling Oconee County to prospective businesses is more difficult.  Oconee County Economic Development Commission executive director Richard Blackwell gives the selling points of the Golden Corner.  “The selling points are all location, location, location.  We are on the I85 corridor; we are nestled in between Atlanta and Charlotte.  We have a great workforce that is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get the job done.  We have a great quality of life here with three lakes, Keowee, Hartwell and Jocassee.  From a quality of life standpoint, there are many recreation opportunities.  If you love the outdoors there is no better place in the southeast than right here in Oconee County.  We have a great business climate thanks to our partners at the chambers and thanks to the existing businesses here.  It is truly making this a special place to live, work and play.” Oconee County is easy to sell, adds Blackwell. “I get the luxury of tell that story and to me it is an easy story to tell.  It is one that we are going to be aggressive about telling and making sure people know about Oconee County, South Carolina.  That they do not confuse us with our friends in Georgia.  We are nestled here in the Upstate and we are blossoming thanks to the automotive industry, biosciences and advanced materials.  So, why not locate a business in Oconee County, South Carolina?” Blackwell hopes to lure more businesses and industries to the Golden Corner in the coming year.  The county is actively seeking tenants to locate in the new Golden Corner Commerce Park as well as other areas of Oconee County.
