Seneca City Council Approves Resolution Tuesday Night Allocating Matching Funds For Community Development Block Grant For Kellett Property

(Seneca, SC)————-At Tuesday night’s Seneca City Council meeting, City Council voted unanimously to pass a resolution allocating up to $183,000 in matching funds in regards to a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant for the purposes of demolishing the old J.N. Kellett Elementary School.

“As part of their procedures, we’re required to pass a resolution that identifies that we’re responsible for the matching funds of $183,000 which we expected anyway,” according to Moulder.

Moulder said that the exact figure may be less than the $183,000 due to the fact that the work has not yet gone to the bidding process, however, the resolution needed to be passed in order to comply with federal standards since the grant funds are federal dollars.

The grant is awarded by the South Carolina Department of Commerce. The announcement of the awarding of the grant to Seneca was made back on December 4th.
