Seneca City Council Votes to End Local Transit System

That was Seneca City Council Member Dana Moore. For 20 years, Seneca’s bus service earned praise for its all-electric fleet, but this changed last night when the city council, following an executive session, voted to terminate its contract with Clemson Area Transit (CAT) and sell off the service’s assets. Despite their sadness over ending the free bus rides, the council, concerned about public finances, decided they could no longer justify the costs for maintaining the fleet, according to Mayor Dan Alexander, who added they hope to find future solutions for those who relied on the service for transportation…

Contributing to the decision were issues with the city’s bus manufacturer’s bankruptcy and the inability to obtain necessary parts, including for the downtown re-charging station. Mayor Pro-Tem Ronnie O’Kelley, alongside Mayor Dan Alexander, expressed regret, acknowledging the bus service as one of Alexander’s greatest achievements in his 30 years as mayor.
